The who’s who of Hollywood gathered in New York to celebrate the most awaited event in the fashion industry – the Met Gala. Make no mistake, it’s not just an evening of celebrities walking down the red carpet to put together an evening to remember and flaunting their most decorated and iconic designer pieces. Met Gala also serves as an annual fundraising exhibition for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Each year a theme is decided, in accordance to which the meticulous and extravagant costumes follow. This year Met’s theme was “Camp: Notes on Fashion” inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay. From the extremely theatrical Lady Gaga to the subtly charming Alicia Keys, No-Photos-Please Hailee Steinfeld to trending power couple Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, a magical Zendaya to a sinfully funny Jared Leto; the aesthetic at Met Gala 2019 swept us off our feet!

The Met Gala 2019, which marks the event’s 71st anniversary, was co-hosted by Lady Gaga with Alessandro Michele, Harry Styles and Serena Williams.

Following is our takedown on the stylistic choices of some of the royal attendees:-

Lady Gaga wearing Brandon Maxwell

Lady Gaga wearing Brandon Maxwell

Lady Gaga, who wore four outfits from Brandon Maxwell gave us quite a show! The very recent Oscar-winner was the first one to arrive and she definitely made an entrance wearing a super flouncy parachute jacket in hot pink. But that was not it. She revealed three more layers stripping down one by one and finally revealing the black bikini. And of course, the unforgettable eye makeup!

Jennifer Lopez wearing Versace

J.Lo was shining like a diamond in a heavily decorated fringe body con gown and looked like a goddess with a bedazzling headpiece as her crown. She rocked one of tailor Luigi Massi’s last creations to the 2019 Met Gala as a tribute to his death.

Kim Kardashian West wearing Mugler

The ultimate reality T.V star looked like she came dripping right out of the pool and still managed to look pretty amazing. Kim Kardashian wore the first piece created by designer Manfred Thierry Mugler. The look was not easily achieved, as she asked her stylists to tighten the corset to create an illusion of a tiny waist.

Celine Dion wearing Oscar de la Renta

In one of her interviews, the Canadian music icon had already stated the fact that she wasn’t in full grasp of 2019 Met Gala’s theme. That, however, was no hurdle to her as she arrived in the most glistening and showy outfit this year. She carried it with great poise and confidence, enjoying every bit of the attention. The hand-stitched fringed bodysuit mirrored the icon Celine Dion is.

Billy Porter wearing The Blonds

Even by the Gala standards for the evening, the Egyptian Cleopatra-style entrance was by far the most outrageous and over-the-top as was expected. Billy Porter was ready to fly in those golden wings, and he even might have, given how absolutely adored he was by the media.

Serena Williams wearing Versace

No wonder she can do it all. An exceptional athlete on court, she also owned the fashion crowd with her stellar work. She was the most outstanding now only because of the bright yellow floral dress, but also pulled off her attire for the evening with sneakers. Now that’s crazy!

Harry Styles wearing Gucci

Being the co-host alongside Lady Gaga, he had to match up to her strong persona yet he appeared in the most semi-formal attire wearing all ruffles matching it up with high waist pants. Combining both masculine and feminine sides, he wore pointed heels and a bow neck tie to enhance the overall look. He also went as far as to piercing his ear before the event.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas wearing Dior

The rising global icon Priyanka Chopra-Jonas donned a silver Dior gown. Priyanka said that she was bringing the East and the West together by wearing a ‘Bindi’ which is a quintessential part of Indian culture.

Kylie Jenner wearing Versace

One of the most stunning outfits was from the Kardashian family. Kim first raised the mercury followed by Kylie who later took on the spotlight. Kylie Jenner beautifully carried lavender beaded dress, embellished with fluffy feathers making her the eye candy of the event. And how can we miss her lavender hair, which only she could so elegantly carry. Overall, we loved the whole lavender on lavender look which was refreshing to see. She definitely brought something new to the table.

Ezra Miller wearing Burberry

Ezra Miller walked down the red carpet wearing all Burberry pinstriped pant suit attached with a long caped- trail. Furthermore, the suit was beautifully modified with studded corset enhancing the outfit even more. Later, he would turn into an exhibitionist; wearing five eyed make-up creating a facial optical illusion.

Cardi B wearing Thom Browne

She covered the entire space with her beautiful maroon red gown draped in extra large trail giving us the ultimate finale look of 2019 Met Gala. We had high hopes from Cardi B after 2018 Met Gala. This was one of those iconic moments where Cardi B was in it to win it. Also, that headpiece was the cherry on top.

Jared Leto wearing Gucci

Oscar-winner and 30 Seconds to Mars front man Jared Leto brought the same stylistic madness he possesses as an artist to his attire for the evening. Jared Leto was draped in what was a red bejewelled gown. A highly volatile prankster, he left many a mouths gaping at the choice of him carrying a dismembered replica of his own head.

Katy Perry wearing Moschino

Bringing along a Beauty and the Beast inspired dress , she was sure to be in limelight!

As if the chandelier-esque gown wasn’t enough, she further went on to raise eyebrows when she kissed Celine Dion wearing a hamburger at the after parties at Met Gala 2019.

Compiling all the bizarre and outrageous looks from 2019 Met Gala has been way too exciting and honestly, humorous as well. We saw a lot of head gears, heavily exaggerated jewellery along with flounce and feathers this year. No doubt that most of them couldn’t really bring the campy-ness to the red carpet but we all had a great show. Let us know which your favourites from the event are.
